Ecologically conscious living

A peaceful way of life.

Vinagra Village is a 20ha organic farm in the southern region of Alentejo, one of Portugal’s hidden treasures and Europe's best kept secret with lots to discover. Nestled in the tranquil countryside, surrounded by endless nature, Vinagra Village is being built with eco-friendly sustainable values and a future-thinking vision.

Terracrua Design (specialists company in ecological regenerative design) were consulted for the planning and implementation of Vinagra Village. Topographical maps, 25 year old land history and soil analysis were some of the activities undertaken to create a holistic plan that includes keyline planting, forest gardens, woodland, pasture management, water management, farm operation and tourist areas.

First Phase

The first phase of the Project Vinagra Village is the restoration of the land to the ecological reality of the site in order to allow the goals of Vinagra Village. This is the work of Terracrua Design and Nuno Mamede and his team. They have reviewed topographical maps, land history back to 25 years, soil analysis and other important details, in order to match the goals of the project. The result was this, a holistic plan that includes keyline planting, forest gardens, woodland, pasture management, water management, farm operation and tourist areas.

Terracrua Design team acted as contributors and creators of information while creating this Master Plan, and their involvement will continue as the project is implemented. For that reason Vinagra Village will be offering workshops retreats and practical courses on ecological agriculture design, permaculture, water management and restoration agriculture through Terracrua Design. Vinagra Village is the best example of this transformation to all attendees.

Life Terra was kind enough to partner with Vinagra Village. How? All trees planted in spring 2023 by Vinagra Village team were individually geo-localised with Life Terra’s tagging technology.

We hope to extend this collaboration in the coming years with the many other tree planting in the pipeline at Vinagra Village. Thank you Life Terra.

What was done in 2022?

As planned we kept our sheep within new electric paddocks so that they could graze in a planned and orderly way and help improve soil fertility while still maintaining their natural way of living. This means eating nothing but pasture as they have up until now.

Then we planted more trees, a lot more, in order to help build biomass and have more shade in the future.

Then we completed the irrigation system in order to grow our very own kitchen garden and sustain the orchard.

Pigs, and chickens they all came in to help work the soil.
